NNAAC to host Building Your Board of Directors webinar series: January – March 2012


The National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC) has designed a series of upcoming webinars focusing on effective functioning  strategies for  boards  of directors. Under this umbrella we will cover three topics:

Ambassadors: Board Members Representing Your Organization in the Community (see video of this webinar here)

Working Together: Effective Board Relations with the Executive Director and Other Staff

Board Succession: Finding and Developing Leaders for the Board of Directors (Mar. 20 - REGISTER FOR THIS UPCOMING WEBINAR HERE)

We encourage senior staff and board members of the NNAAC member organizations and other Arab American nonprofits to participate. The webinars  will stress a highly interactive approach with real-life experiences from participating organizations.  All webinars are from 2-3 p.m. EST.

January 24, 2012 – Ambassadors: Board Members Representing Your Organization in the Community

Learn how board members can effectively represent the programs and needs of your organization through strategic efforts in their day-to-day interactions  with co-workers and community members.

Topics will include:

•             Board responsibilities
•             Targeted strategies
•             Crafting messages
•             Preparing board members
•             Resources

Primary presenter: Mike Corbin, senior program manager, NNAAC.  Resource people will include NNAAC organization board members and executive directors.

 

February 21, 2012 – Working Together: Effective Board Relations with the Executive Director and Other Staff

Learn to work between “how it is supposed to be” and “how it really can work” in organizations of all sizes and stages of development.

Topics will include:

•             Who talks to whom, when, about what?
•             Communications flow
•             Staff working with board committees
•             The executive director-board chair relationship
•             The executive director’s role in identifying and recruiting new board members
•             Defining the goals of the executive director and performance appraisal

March 28, 2012 – Board Succession: Finding and Developing Leaders for the Board of Directors (REGISTER HERE)

Leadership is the critical variable in success for any nonprofit organization.  Much of that leadership must come from the board of directors. Learn how to build the leadership of your board in this highly interactive session.

Topics will include:

•             Building an appropriate structure and leadership rotation
•             Recruiting the right potential leaders
•             Grooming individuals for leadership
•             The value and achievement of diversity in leadership
•             Encouraging individuals to step up to leadership
